Sites around Thetis Island
For those seeking some exercise, the roads of Thetis Island are lovely and quiet to stroll. The Pot of Gold Coffee Roasting Company is a popular destination on foot.
There are a number of small home-based businesses on Thetis Island, in addition to the commercial ones. The island is quiet, and there are no centers of commercial activity other than the marinas facilities. Overbury Farm Resort, located on the point looking over Preedy Harbour and Stuart Channel, is a favorite for weddings, and they do have accommodation in a variety of cabins, and kayaks that can be rented by the day.
The marina has a brochure available in the pub and store that contains a map of Thetis Island, and listings of the various attractions you can investigate and/or visit during your stay.
We are often asked about real estate on the island, and the costs associated with buying on Thetis. The best way to ascertain representative costs is to review some web-based real estate sites. At the present time there are no full time realtors on the island. There are lots of people who can offer comment, however, just like most places. There is a community notice board at the ferry dock with a variety of topics covered from services to rentals. Take a stroll up to the ferry and have a read.
Each summer, there are marina markets on the weekends, where local residents sell produce, baked and canned goods from the island. Check with the marina for times and place, and come early. We have had a good representation from the First Nations Band on neighboring Penelakut Island with native carvings; it is a great opportunity to buy direct from the carver and be assured it is genuine.
Thetis offers a great opportunity to walk along shaded, quiet roads, chat with people you meet, see abundant wildlife such as deer, raccoons, eagles, owls and other species. In the late spring the eagles arrive, and there are often dozens right in front of the marina on the shore, in the trees, and soaring directly overhead. The best times for eagle watching is in May and early June, although there are resident eagles present year round in smaller numbers.
